I eat a lot of bland food. A LOT of bland food. Part of that is having a daughter who can’t take ANY spice, and part of it is leftovers that don’t travel well. That’s when I discovered the joy of sauce.
It’s been a while since I posted, but although I’ve had a couple ideas for posts running, I haven’t had much motivation to post things. However, this has been percolating in my brain for some time, so I thought I’d get it out of my head.

What happened was that my Legion post has a member who works for a grocery store. When they get a bunch of food that is about to be thrown out, they bring it to the post… a LOT of food. I have a bottle of hot sauce at my desk; didn’t help. One day, someone gave me a container of Chick-fil-A sauce. I took it thinking… what am I going to do with this? My grandfather taught me never to put sauce on a good piece of beef, and diets have told me that salads don’t really need dressing, so I haven’t been a big sauce guy.
Then I had a string of… very disappointing lunches. So I thought, let’s try some of this Chick-fil-A sauce on it. Oh my word – it was delectable. Rice and beans for the seventeenth time? No problem, a little sweet sauce and I gobbled it up. Salad? Doesn’t matter if it’s not salad dressing; in fact, it’s BETTER than regular dressing! Yeah, it’s another fifty calories, but it’s SO worth it.

So I was very sad when I ran out of the Chick-fil-A sauce. I had some barbeque sauce left over from camping (I was expecting to buy really cheap meat) and that tided me over. Again, still good, still yummy, still saved so many disappointing lunches. So when I finally ran out of that, I bought some cheap sauces, and continued the trend.
I am very happy now during my lunches. It’s like the film Fried Green Tomatoes taught us, it’s all about the sauce. If you don’t get the reference, watch the 1991 film… it’s worth it. If you’re worried it’s a chick flick, they kill off Chris O’Donnell in the first five minutes. 🙂 So invest in some sauce–doesn’t have to be good, just spicy. You’ll thank me late.
Good to see you back around. You always seem to manage to pop up in the middle of one of my own leaves of absence, lol. Let’s just say there that I’m struggling with the same ROI issues that you were regarding blogging.
Silk, glad to “see” you again as well. I’m trying to take the approach that this is just my online diary. I’m just amazed I still have an audience!
Yes, it is about the sauce.
